The Infamous Carter Family Gingerbread Houses

I never made a gingerbread house before getting married to Fiona. Now I can't see a Christmas being complete without one. You see, when I first thought of gingerbread houses (and why I wasn't all that interested in making them), I thought of this:

Which is nice and all, and takes a fair amount of skill, but never struck me as particularly exciting. Fiona convinced me, however, that when it came to gingerbread houses we could make whatever the hell we wanted, and with a little imagination and some pop culture obsession put together, we've been able to put together some rather interesting works these past two years.

Our first attempt:

I'm wondering if Stan is more upset by the Critters, or that his face appears to be melting onto his shoulder.
Yup, we reenacted The Woodland Critter Christmas episode of South Park. Our skills were more limited then, hence the roughness of much of the design, but we still managed to get in (from left to right), Beary the Bear, Stan, Woodpeckery the Woodpecker (on the roof), Squirrely the Squirrel, Porcupiney the... well, you get the naming aesthetic,  Deery, Foxy, Rabbity (on the sacrificial altar) and Mousy. They're disturbing and delicious! And though rough, this success led us to try bigger and better things next year:

Christmas at the Bates Motel! Though smaller in size, this one took a lot more work. Of note I'd like to point out the candy cane posts, the Oreo crumb driveway gravel, and the Kit Kat parking space bumpers. Also, the fact that there appears to have been a recent murder in Room 1 that Norman has yet to clean up.

This year will be our most ambitious yet as we're going to make a house besieged by gingerbread zombies. Will we be able to pull it off this weekend? Stay tuned to our blogs to find out!

And as always, please drop me a line on Facebook or Twitter! I'm big into liking/following back!

Thanks! Yeah, this year is probably our most ambitious yet. And Fi's baking skills are intense; Bates Motel was so sturdy it honestly took a hammer to disassemble!
